Trip to Sarawak - Satok Sunday Market

This vibrant Sunday market along Jalan Satok, comes alive Saturday afternoon when local traders from the outskirts of Kuching peddle their wares.

Catch a glimpse of the fat squirming grubs, sieet, or unique wild ferns "midin" and other jungle produce sold in makeshift stalls by the roadside, or simply on empty rice sacks lain on the ground.

Fresh 'Udang Galah'

The place truly comes alive with a riot of colours, smells and dialects as the locals converge to buy their weekly produce.

Traders sell handicrafts, clothes, fresh produce, food and drinks and much more. This is also an

excellent excuse for picture taking opportuniti

Take an outing to the market, and be prepared to face a bevy of smiles, fierce haggling and friendly faces in the true Sarawakian warmth and charm.

Extragalactic Space

The spiral-armed galaxy you see here is not the Milky Way, however -- though it might easily be mistaken for it -- but instead a nearby galaxy known as NGC 6744 that is something of a galactic Doppelganger to our own home galaxy.

NGC 6744 is about 30 million light years away, but from our vantage point here on Earth we view it almost face on, offering us a fantastic view of the spiraling star cluster from a nearly ideal position. It is one of the closest and largest spiral galaxies -- it's actually twice as big as the Milky Way -- and offers astronomers a nice observable analog to our own galaxy and the way things tend to organize themselves in such systems.

What's more, its closeness to our own galaxy coupled with its brightness (about 60 billion suns) make it very visible in the southern sky. Amateur astronomers with even low-power telescopes should be able to see it as an ovular hazy patch with a bright center about twice the size of the moon. Of course, if you point a 2.2-meter professional ‘scope at it, the results are even more impressive.

(Sumber : Kosmo online)

Five Strange Facts About Chocolate

You might think of yourself as a chocolate genius, but here are five strange facts about chocolate you've probably never heard before! Sit back and prepare to be amazed: your favorite food is even stranger than you ever realized!

1. Chocolate is responsible for the microwave.

Don't believe it? It's the truth! Scientists were initially experimenting with micro waves in the hopes of creating a better radar detector. In the wake of WWII, scientists continued to test devices called magnetrons. On one such lab, a scientist named Percy Spencer happened to stroll through with a chocolate bar in his pocket.

When he discovered the melted chocolate, Spencer realized that he might be able to use the magnetron to cook food. He tried popping corn (successfully) and then thought he'd give real food a try. His first experiment? An egg, which cooked so quickly it blew up in his face!

2. Chocolate is a serious American staple.

Some interesting facts about chocolate consumption in the U.S. of A.:

-American chocolate companies use 1.5 billion pounds of milk every year.

-Americans consume almost half of the world's annual chocolate products

-Every Russian and American space voyage has included chocolate bars.

3. Throughout history, we've had a love-hate affair with chocolate.

You know the drill: you love the stuff, but you could really do without the sugar highs, added pounds, and guilt factor that come from chocolate. Well, in the category of past strange facts about chocolate: during the 16th and 17th centuries, the church was a watchtower of health and waistlines: eating chocolate was considered a sin! By the 18th century, however, people considered chocolate a medicine. It was especially popular as a treatment for stomach aches (and I bet a woman came up with that!).

4. Chocolate really can be deadly.

You're not the only one who craves chocolate, you know. Chocolate is extremely addictive for our canine companions! Small amounts of chocolate may not hurt your dog, but once a dog develops a taste for the sweet, it'll stop at nothing to get more. And in large amounts, chocolate can lead to epileptic seizures and poisoning.

The poisonous part of chocolate is a chemical called theobromine. It's harmless to humans, but deadly to dogs.

5. There are a lot of myths about chocolate.

There are a lot of strange facts about chocolate out there, but a lot of MISinformation, too! For example:

-Chocolate is not particularly high in caffeine. You would have to eat ten chocolate bars to get the same amount of caffeine as you find in a single cup of coffee.

-There is absolutely no link between chocolate and acne, as any modern dermatologist will happily tell you.

-Chocolate is good for you -- unfortunately, its additives aren't! Pure cocoa powder is full of iron and antioxidants. Add sugar or butter, though, and the calories begin to mount.

Chocolate isn't only delicious, it's a fascinating and even exciting treat! Grab yourself a few ounces and keep surfing for strange facts about chocolate.

Zylkin turns old typewriter to iPad keyboards

The USBTypewriter is a new and groundbreaking innovation in the field of obsolescence. Lovers of the look, feel, and quality of old fashioned manual typewriters can now use them as keyboards for any USB-capable computer, such as a PC, Mac, or even iPad! The modification is easy to install, it involves no messy wiring, and does not change the outward appearance of the typewriter (except for the usb adapter itself, which is mounted in the rear of the machine). So the end result is a retro-style USB keyboard that not only looks great, but feels great to use.

After learning about the design on this page, please visist my etsy page -- I have some very beautiful USB Typewriters for sale there, as well as DIY kits for those who want to make their own. You can also use etsy to contact me about custom work.

Topi ‘tandas’ dijual RM405,000

Jane Taylor, who created the wedding hat worn by the Countess of Wessex, said: "My inspiration was beauty and elegance; it's a 21st-century royal wedding. They didn't tell me what they wanted because I've known them for a long time and I wanted them to look gorgeous and beautiful."

Photobucket

:) tq asyraf untuk award ni...pengalaman berblog? mmmm...rasanya tahun 2011 ni...masuk tahun ke 4 aku berblog...

Mula kenal blog tahun 2007...masa belajar buat blog ni rasa macam susah je...lepas belajar buat blog...tak pernah ambil tau macamana nak buat atau nak manage blog. Hinggalah tahun 2008...entah apa sebabnya aku mula tertarik nak buat blog.
